Am I independent?

Many of us are unaware of the extraordinary freedom we possess. We live in a world riddled with habits that we feel are unbreakable. So we spend our lives just getting by. Never setting our sights on anything higher because we’re going to “fail” or because we’re scared of what “people” might think or say. The standards for our performance on a daily (yet alone yearly) basis are often shallow at best and non-existent at worst.

When was the last time you made a commitment to yourself and kept it, even for just a week? When we were kids we were introduced to new activites and our curiosity was encouraged. We committed to school, community, sports, charities, girl scouts …. achieve, achieve, achieve! It was a strong message for most of us and one that we often pass on to our children.

So my question for you today is this: How often do you take advantage of the opportunities to try something new, experience something out of your comfort zone, go out of your way to climb outside your box?

If you can’t remember the last time you experienced this, I challenge you to take a look at how truly free and independent you are today. Everyday can include something just for you. Yes, something meaningful, fun, interesting, touching, motivating or freeing.

Let’s celebrate our independence today. Our independence from negative thinking, negative self-talk, negative conversations, self-defeating attitudes, “less-than” perspectives and limited resources. (If you don’t know how to do this than you can learn how to do this.)

Let’s shift into: I am enough, I can do this, I have all I need, I love myself, I have choices, my life is good, my world is great, I’m free to be who I want to be today.
